Origin: Native to Europe and Asia, I'm known for my beautiful, early-blooming flowers that often appear in late Winter to early spring.
Light: I thrive in partial to full shade. Place me in a location where I can enjoy dappled sunlight or morning sun with afternoon shade.
Temperature: I prefer cool to moderate temperatures. I can tolerate a range of climates but do best in zones 4-9. Protect me from extreme heat and harsh afternoon sun.
Watering: Keep my soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water me regularly, especially during dry periods.
Soil: Plant me in well-draining, rich soil with plenty of organic matter. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0) is ideal.
Fertilization: Feed me with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. An application of compost or well-rotted manure in Autumn will also support my health and flowering.
Pruning: Prune me by removing old, damaged, or diseased foliage to keep me healthy and encourage new growth. Deadhead spent flowers to tidy up my appearance.
Propagation: I can be propagated by division. Divide me in early spring or fall by carefully digging up and separating my clumps.
Pests/Diseases: I'm relatively pest and disease-resistant, but watch for issues like aphids, slugs, and black spot. Treat pests with insecticidal soap.
