We opened Babylon Store back in April 2021. Nestled in St Heliers, Auckland, the store itself is a destination: filled with thriving potted plants for indoors and out, accompanied by the work of some of the world’s best ceramics brands, this is a place that feels more like a gallery of living things than a retail space — transformative and captivating.
We offer a bespoke in-home potted plant design offering — a service that sits somewhere between landscape and interior design. There’s something innately beautiful about a space where potted plants thrive; it’s more than creating connections with nature — when indoor (and outdoor) plant design is done well, it transforms the whole experience of a space.
Sandii
Co-Founder & Creative Director Sandii is the design force behind Babylon Store. Her concept for the store grew from sourcing the perfect pots to complement Babylon Gardens projects, a boutique landscaping business she founded with her husband, Jared, over 15 years ago.
She literally scours the globe to find us the very best vessels and accessories for our store. As a potter herself, she has a keen appreciation for the arts and curates a lovely range from local potters. Decades of planting and sourcing the most weird and wonderful plants from New Zealand’s best nurseries mean there are always unique plants for you to discover in store, and special varieties that can’t be found elsewhere.
Kirsty
Co-founder & Customer Manager Kirsty has been Sandii’s partner in crime for more decades than they care to remember. So when Sandii shared her vision for Babylon Store, she was hooked, and their business partnership was born.
Kirsty’s key focus is the Store’s cherished customers. She works closely with the rest of the team to ensure they’re well looked after, giving them the attention they deserve to find the perfect gift or addition to their home. Our customers come to Babylon Store seeking inspiration and great customer care. We love guiding them through what’s possible.
Our potted plant design and installation service is an intrinsic part of what we offer, and Kirsty works closely with our customers, designing plans to bring their environments to life. She sources all the elements and pulls the projects together, overseeing our installation team to ensure the plans are implemented seamlessly.
Tei
Tei, our fully trained Horticulturist, puts her Diploma in Horticulture and many years in the industry to great use, ensuring the plants at Babylon are at their very best. From the moment they touch down in the store, Tei is behind the scenes getting them looking their best for their new plant parents. From watering to careful plant placement and skilful pot pairing, all the plants at Babylon are safe under her care.
Her love of all things botanical sees her creating unique plantscapes that our customers find hard to resist, as well as being the go-to person for the perfect flowers and plant styling.
With her infectious plant passion, Tei is the perfect person to head up the teaching of our highly sought-after workshops, covering everything from the Japanese art of kokedama to designing succulent bowls and terrariums.
Hana
Hana wears many hats. Her landscaping experience, coupled with her sharp eye and practical know-how, gives her unique skills to level up our potted-plant installations and plant care site visits. When she’s not helping customers, she’s creating new planted sets, photographing our latest arrivals, developing our website or creating content.
She also carries out our plant care site visits, using her experience and knowledge to treat pests, reposition plants and pots for better growth, and generally enhance the ongoing growth and look of every home setup.
