Tony Swanson has had a lifetime interest in Japan & its varied cultures which have influenced his approach to pottery. Although his mother was a potter, his background was more in graphic art & printmaking. Often using wild dug clays, he also makes all of his ash glazes from the burning of various local woods, leaves & lichens. He uses the natural environment to inspire his glazing & pottery shaping.
