Obvara is an ancient pottery technique from Eastern Europe, also known as "Baltic Raku", where a hot bisqued pot is removed from the kiln and dropped into a mixture of yeast, flour, sugar milk and water, then straight into cold water. This forms a beautiful crackled or speckled pattern on the surface of the pottery. These patterns often end up reminding us of different animals!
