Origin: Native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, the Caribbean, and Pacific Islands.
Light: Give me plenty of sunlight! I thrive in full sun, so place me in a sunny spot where I can soak up at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Temperature: Keep me warm please! I benefit from being planted near a stone or concrete wall so I can absorb that extra heat form the sun.
Watering: I prefer to be watered deeply but infrequently. Allow my soil to dry out slightly between waterings, especially during the winter months when I'm dormant.
Soil: Well-draining soil is key. Plant me in a sandy, loamy mix with good drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.
Fertilization: Feed me with a balanced fertilizer formulated for flowering plants every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding or stop altogether during the winter months.
Pruning: Prune me sparingly to maintain my shape and remove any dead or diseased branches. Pruning is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
Propagation: I'm usually propagated from stem cuttings. Stem cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature branches and allowed to callus before planting in well-draining soil.
Pests/Diseases: Keep an eye out for pests like aphids, scale insects, and spider mites. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap. Watch for fungal diseases, especially in humid conditions.
