Nina Niniko Ceramics

Nina Chechelashvili is a ceramicist based in Auckland. Having been trained as a textile/surface designer, the ongoing exploration of the subtleties of colour and texture form the basis of her practice. She is endlessly fascinated by the alchemic process of glaze making, and the development of unusual surfaces in non-traditional colours.

Growing up on the fantasy and sci fi books on her parents shelves, much of her work devotes itself to capturing the brief glimpses of alien worlds and enchanted dreamscapes which are scattered throughout the popular imagination. The objects she makes are relics from the universal magic forest whimsical yet familiar.
